We will use all possible means to seek justice for Mahama – Family

The family of the late Major Maxwell Mahama says they have forgiven the people of Denkyira-Obuasi.

According to them, since their son cannot be brought back, they bear no grudges against the people who took his dear life.

However, the family has indicated that although they have forgiven the people of Denkyira-Obuasi, they will not renege on their effort to seek justice for the innocent soul of their son.

“The Central Regional Minister led a very high powered delegation made up of all the DCEs, MPs and other ministers from the region to the family at the funeral grounds and the regional minister apologized on behalf of the region. And if you were there that day, he was literally kneeling down before the head of the family to say that – look we are sorry this thing has happened. We beg for forgiveness. And at the end of the day, the responses from all sides of the family were unanimous – that look it is something that has happened and we have to forgive them. However, we demand for justice.”

“It wasn’t everyone in that town or that region that was involved in that act so if they come as a region to apologise we accept but we will still demand for justice. We accept the apology but that does not mean we can forgive them in the manner that one will say they’ve been forgiven. We say the law should take its course and the right people should be punished,” Spokesperson for the family said.

He indicated that the family made of Christians and Muslims believes that vengeance is the Lord’s and therefore, will not do anything to avenge the death of their son.

“We as humans cannot exact vengeance for our son. No matter what we do, we are not going to get our son back. What we have forgiven them therefore is the innocent ones who did not take part in the lynching. But for those that are involved in it, the law should take its course,” he added.

I dumped my girlfriend for medical reasons - Harrysong

‘Reggae Blues’ crooner, Harrysong has opened up on the real reasons behind his break-up with his last known girlfriend, Harriet Eddie. According to the singer, he was really hopeful of getting married to Harriet until he found out that they were both AS.

He made the revelation while reacting to viral reports originated by a popular blogger that he had secretly married the former ‘Most Beautiful Girl In Niger Delta’. He told Premium Times, “I never (been) married to the girl in question and I have never been married. It is not something that should be kept secret if I was indeed married. Yes, Harriet and I dated in the past so she is just my ex-girlfriend.”

“I found out that we were both AS so there was no way we could get married. I really looked forward to marrying her when we dated.

“The news of my supposed ‘secret marriage’, which was broken by Linda Ikeji, only happened in her imagination. Doesn’t (it) sound daft that I would opt for a secret marriage? I want my fans to know that I am not married and neither am I in a relationship,” he added.

Shatta Wale comes hard at critics over Camry car gift

If we make a list of uncultured celebrities in Ghana, Shatta Wale would certainly be on top of the list.

Although he’s been able to chalk great success in his music career he has no manners and it’s something that’s very worrying for an artiste of his caliber.

Shatta Wale rewarded his most loyal fans some few days ago and the ultimate winner Sekley Moses won a Toyota Camry, one of Shatta’s cars.

But then some rumours have spread out that Shatta Wale sold the car to the winner at a discounted price and that it was not given to him FREE. Others too have posited that, the whole award show was a ‘friends and family’ thing and not a true fans awards show.

It appears those rumours making rounds have angered Shatta Wale and in a distasteful post he made on Facebook, he’s described such people with unprintable adjectives.

Someone should just advise Shatta that, it’s not everything that you have to respond to. So far as the winner has not come out to make any revelation, there’s no need to react and especially in this bizarre and ridiculous manner.

Akufo-Addo's Government: NASA’s Joe Anokye for Communications Minister?

Information reaching abusuafmonline.com indicates President-elect, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has penciled a Telecommunications Service Manager with National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) as his Communications Minister.

According to insider information, necessary consultations have been concluded for the appointment of Joe Anokye as Minister for Communications.

Anokye has been working with NASA as the man responsible for Integrated Services Network and Information Technology and Services.

In the days leading to last December polls, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) appreciated the need for a full introductions of technology to effectively monitor transmission of election results hence engaged the personal expertise of Joe Anokye, a Telecommunications engineering service manager at NASA, the US space agency.

Anokye was made the Technology Director of the NPP 2016 Campaign Team.

Through his brain child, the NPP was able to predict victory for Nana Akufo-Addo eight hours after the close of poll, at a time the Electoral Commission seemed not to have the full complement of the needed data at the national level as results were still trickling in from across the 275 Constituencies.

Joe Anokye manages a team of highly technical network engineers who administer NASA’s Global Mission Telecommunication Wide Area Network (WAN).

As a Telecommunications engineering service manager at NASA GSFC, he worked collaboratively in many Telecommunications Planning exercises worldwide with Telecom and Network engineers from Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), German Space Operations Centre (GSOC), Canadian Space Agency (CSA), Australia’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO – Dongara) and many other national Space Programs like the Jet Propulsion Lab (JPL) in California.

Already, Nana Addo has stated that heart surgeon Professor Kwabena Frimpong Boateng will be his minister for Environment Science and Technology and Dr Afriyie Akoto is likely to be named the Agriculture Minister.

Nana Akufo-Addo drops names of three more appointees

President-elect Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has mentioned three additional names for ministerial positions subject to parliamentary approval after his inauguration. The names are Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto for the Ministry of Food and Agriculture; Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, and Mr Isaac Asiamah, the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Earlier, he had pencilled in Mr Kwadwo Alan Kyerematen for the Ministry of Trade and Industry and Hajia Alima Mahama for the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.

Nana Akufo-Addo will be sworn into office as the fifth President of the Fourth Republic on Saturday, January 7, 2017, after which he will officially name his ministers.

But even before that, he has been dropping hints of who the men and women will be at various functions.

Dr Afriyie Akoto

At a meeting with a delegation of some Zongo chiefs at his Nima residence in Accra over the weekend, the President-elect hinted that Dr Afriyie Akoto, who is currently the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kwadaso in Kumasi and Minority Spokesperson on Agriculture, would be his Minister of Agriculture.

Dr Akoto will not be part of the next Parliament which begins its tenure from January 7, 2017 because he lost in the parliamentary primary to Dr S. Kwadwo Nuamah, a young lecturer at the University of Ghana and new entrant.

“The Kumasi people will recognise Amadu Baba of Kwame Nkrumah’s time. He had a great friend in the Asantehene’s Kyeame (senior linguist), Baffour Akoto. Dr Akoto is his son, who is the MP for Kwadaso.

"He is our Spokesperson on Agriculture and if Parliament passes him, he is likely to be the Minister of Agriculture,” Nana Akufo-Addo told the Zongo chiefs.

Who is Dr Akoto?

The 57-year-old Dr Akoto is a farmer himself with plantations at Manso Nkwanta in the Ashanti Region. He is the CEO of Plantation Resources Company Limited and holds a PhD in Agricultural Economics from Cambridge University, UK.

As the son of the late Baffour Akoto, who was himself deeply involved in the National Liberation Movement (NLM) during Nkrumah's time, Dr Akoto first launched his parliamentary bid in Kumasi in 2000 in the then Bantama Constituency, challenging the incumbent MP, Dr Richard Anane, who was seeking re-election after his first term.

When Dr Akoto was unsuccessful in the primary, he went independent and lost to Dr Anane.

In 2004, the then Bantama Constituency was divided into three — Nhyiaeso, Kwadaso and Bantama — and Dr Akoto attempted the bid at Kwadaso but lost to Hilda Josephine Addo in the NPP primary.

He relaunched his campaign in 2008 and defeated Hilda Addo in the primary.

In 2015, however, Dr Nuamah defeated Dr Akoto in the NPP parliamentary primary.

For the two terms that Dr Akoto was in Parliament — 2009 to 2012 and 2013 to 2016 — he served as the Minority Spokesperson on Agriculture.

Prof. Frimpong-Boateng

With regard to Dr Frimpong Boateng, the President-elect dropped the hint at the 36th annual Technological Exhibition of the Kristo Asafo Mission in Accra on Sunday, January 1, 2017.

He told the gathering that his government would focus much on science and technology in order to speed up the nation’s drive for industrialisation.

Explaining, Nana Akufo-Addo said the quest for greater heights could only be achieved with the right team, noting that science and technology were key components for the development of the nation, and that was why his administration would ensure that committed Ghanaians with much insight in science and technology would be made to manage the sector.

He announced that the former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng, would manage the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation (MESTI) if he was approved by Parliament.

Who is Frimpong-Boateng?

Nana Akufo-Addo expressed high hopes in the Ghanaian physician and cardiothoracic surgeon who established the National Cardiothoracic Centre (NCC), saying Prof. Frimpong-Boateng would bring the needed change to the sector.

He expressed the belief that science and technology were key areas which needed to be strengthened in order to attain development, while persons who were making giant strides in the sector must be motivated to attain higher heights.

“For this reason, if the next Parliament agrees, I will appoint a prominent Ghanaian to come and assist me and take over the Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation portfolio,” he disclosed.

Isaac Asiamah

Concerning Isaac Asiamah, who is presently the MP for Atwima Mponua, it was the President-elect’s Spokesperson, Mr Mustapha Hamid, who disclosed that the MP was set to become the next Minister of Youth and Sports.

Mr Hamid had led a delegation that was sent by Nana Akufo-Addo to meet with the players and management of the senior national football team, the Black Stars, at the Alisa Hotel in Accra on Sunday, January 1, 2017.

Speaking during the meeting, Mr Hamid said Mr Asiamah, who was part of the delegation, would occupy the position of Sports Minister after vetting by Parliament.

Who is Isaac Asiamah?

Mr Asiamah is currently the Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Youth and Sports.

He hails from Tano Odumasi in the Ashanti Region and is married with three children.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography and Political Science from the University of Ghana, Legon, and had also served on the Parliamentary Committee on Mines and Energy, as well as the Public Accounts Committee in the past.

He previously worked at the National Youth Secretariat.
